Broda Shaggi Reveals Career Fears After Surviving Stray Bullet
Popular Nigerian comedian Samuel Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi, has revealed how a near-death experience almost ended his entertainment career, leaving him physically helpless, emotionally devastated and uncertain about his future.
The celebrated skit maker, who recently returned to the spotlight after months of recovery, described his survival as a second chance from God, explaining that the traumatic experience forced him to confront the possibility of losing both his life and the career he had worked tirelessly to build.
Speaking in an emotional interview published on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Broda Shaggi disclosed that his ordeal began on March 9, 2026, shortly after completing a brand activation assignment around the Sango-Ota bridge area. According to him, he and his production team were caught in traffic when a sudden gunshot shattered what had otherwise been a routine working day.
Recounting the terrifying moment, the comedian explained that he initially experienced a strange silence after hearing a loud bang, only to discover blood around his hip. He subsequently realised that he had been struck by a stray bullet. The incident left him terrified as his team struggled to get him urgent medical attention.
Broda Shaggi revealed that he was initially taken to a hospital in Alakuko, Lagos, where medical personnel examined his injuries but referred him to another facility because of inadequate equipment. He was subsequently transferred to a hospital in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja, where doctors immediately admitted him for emergency treatment.
Beyond the physical injuries, the comedian disclosed that the most difficult part of his recovery was the emotional suffering that followed. Confined to the hospital for months and unable to move his leg, he watched helplessly as colleagues continued producing comedy content, wondering whether he would ever regain the strength to perform or reconnect with his audience.
According to him, the fear of becoming irrelevant in Nigeria’s highly competitive entertainment industry pushed him to tears on several occasions. He admitted that watching fellow entertainers release new skits reminded him of everything he was missing, while uncertainty about his recovery made him question whether his career had come to an unexpected end.
However, the comedian said his survival had strengthened his faith in God and renewed his appreciation for life. Describing March 9 as a day he wished had never happened, Broda Shaggi announced his return through a comeback video titled The Second Chance, expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal and assuring fans that he remains determined to entertain them with exciting new projects.
